Bottleneck Conditional Density Estimators

چکیده

We propose a neural network framework for highdimensional conditional density estimation. The Bottleneck Conditional Density Estimator (BCDE) is a variant of the conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE) that employs layer(s) of stochastic variables as the bottleneck between the input x and target y, where both are high-dimensional. The key to effectively train BCDEs is the hybrid blending of the conditional generative model with a joint generative model that leverages unlabeled data to regularize the conditional model. We show that the BCDE significantly outperforms the CVAE in MNIST quadrant prediction benchmarks in the fully supervised case and establishes new benchmarks in the semi-supervised case.

Functional kernel estimators of conditional extreme quantiles

We address the estimation of “extreme” conditional quantiles i.e. when their order converges to one as the sample size increases. Conditions on the rate of convergence of their order to one are provided to obtain asymptotically Gaussian distributed kernel estimators. A Weissman-type estimator and kernel estimators of the conditional tailindex are derived, permitting to estimate extreme conditio...

Consistency, efficiency and robustness of conditional disparity methods

This report demonstrates the consistency and asymptotic normality of minimum-disparity estimators based on conditional density estimates. In particular, it provides L1 consistency results for conditional density estimators and conditional density estimators under homoscedastic model restrictions. It defines a generic formulation of disparity estimates in conditionally-specified models and demon...

Estimation in a class of nonlinear heteroscedastic time series models

Abstract: Parameter estimation in a class of heteroscedastic time series models is investigated. The existence of conditional least-squares and conditional likelihood estimators is proved. Their consistency and their asymptotic normality are established. Kernel estimators of the noise’s density and its derivatives are defined and shown to be uniformly consistent. A simulation experiment conduct...

UNIFORM IN BANDWIDTH CONSISTENCY OF KERNEL - TYPE FUNCTION ESTIMATORS By

We introduce a general method to prove uniform in bandwidth consistency of kernel-type function estimators. Examples include the kernel density estimator, the Nadaraya–Watson regression estimator and the conditional empirical process. Our results may be useful to establish uniform consistency of data-driven bandwidth kernel-type function estimators.
